'Summary'
'We are looking for a highly dynamic, process-driven Material Flow & Inventory Specialist to join our team in Guelph. This is not a desk job or a standard clerical role. You will be the architect and gatekeeper of how raw materials move from our domestic and international vendor base, through our multi-site stockrooms, and directly to our manufacturing plant floors.
Key Responsibilities
- Multi-Site Inventory Governance: Take full ownership of raw material stocking strategies across 3 (and expanding) manufacturing facilities. Establish and continually optimize safety stock, min/max settings, and reorder points to guarantee 100% material availability.
- Stockroom Layout & Storage Optimization: Lead the physical redesign and organization of stockrooms across all facilities to maximize space utilization and vertical storage density. Implement visual management standards and high-efficiency bin-location systems to significantly reduce part-search time, eliminate picking errors, and improve the overall productivity of the stocking process as our footprint expands.
- Process Improvement & Kaizen Support: Actively participate in and lead cross-functional Kaizen events aimed at improving stockroom layout efficiencies, maximizing space utilization, and streamlining receiving/picking workflows.
- Inventory Accuracy & Reporting: Coordinate the plant-wide cycle counting programs and lead root-cause analysis on inventory discrepancies. Compile, analyze, and present comprehensive annual inventory reports to senior leadership.
- Procurement Alignment: Partner closely with our Buying team to communicate vendor delivery constraints, track lead-time fluctuations, and adjust ERP planning parameters based on real-time consumption data.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of dedicated experience in material control, logistics and inventory flow within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Lean Mindset: Strong, practical knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (Kanban deployment, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, and continuous improvement frameworks).
- Technical Savvy: Advanced capabilities in various ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Sage X3, SAP, Oracle). Proficient in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, pivot tables, formulas).
- Network Capabilities: Experience managing or coordinating inventory across multiple storage locations or facilities is highly desirable.
- Communication: Exceptional collaborative skills. You must be comfortable working closely with buyers, supervisors, material handlers and vendors to enforce standard operating procedures.
