Pros

If you are looking for a good start after completion of university, this is the place. Most position do not require any specific expertise. The pay is adequate, esp. taken the low job expectations. Best approach when joining - take it as a project. A research for a case study on how things should not be done. It can be actually entertaining at some moments.

Cons

Not all managers are qualified to actually be managers but instead of admitting that and learn, they hide behind listing of certificates they've obtained, loud voice or just simply talking down to people. Trying to suggest improvements is unappreciated and sometimes even punished. It is not uncommon for the management to be passive aggressive. When challenged and asked for clarification, the reply usually ends up being 'that's confidential,' 'it's them, not us' or something similar. Discrimination or hidden harassment due to country of origin of some employees happens at times; even comes from managers who are not citizens of Canada. Don't be surprised when your supervisor asks you to link your personal social media accounts to the system at work... one of the reasons is to monitor that you are ok (so the management claimed). Though you may be required not to bring your cellphone, backpack, jacket, etc. to your work station (which is alright due to e.g. NDAs), the company doesn't really provide adequate space for you to keep your belongings safe. You just rely on others leaving your things alone, so you can collect them from an open area once you go home for the day. Also, don't expect too much of any support nor transparency - what you've just learned in your courses (or experienced in other companies) is not really applied here.

Pros

A potential inroad into large client companies (Leave Cognizant ASAP) You aren't unemployed.

Cons

It's a body shop. Clients will view you accordingly. Contractors cannot be trusted with most tasks. You must be siloed (No room for growth) so you don't break anything. Your actual job is to fulfill gaps in the client's grunt work even if out of scope. If you don't, the hammer falls from client and Cognizant. Wages well below industry standards. 1% annual raises only exist because legally they must exist. Takes full advantage of H-1B slave system, where employees' families and homes will be thrown into a furnace if you aren't keeping Cognizant happy no matter what. Employees are complacent in their slavery. Management is just happy to get their extra crumbs and will reinforce the bad culture. C-suite is opaque. If you are familiar with India's caste system you will understand how "lessers" are treated. This also happens in a literal sense, you aren't totally safe just because you are the favored skin tone. Takes full advantage of modern white collar culture. "Your racist actions aren't actually racist if you aren't Caucasian." Expect the uphill battle to be even more steep if you're not Southeast Asian. You will hunt for your own work most of the time. Cognizant is not helpful in any regard. They exist to skim off the top and nothing else.
