Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about a challenging situation at work and how you navigated it.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at FreshBooks (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2018
Interview
Contacted for screening interview. Asked to go over my resume, was cut off to ask questions working with specific software, salary expectations, whether I was ok travelling to office location. Screener did not go over any additional details about the role or team. Was rushed off the call after 15 minutes so screener could make next call. Not sure you can get a full feel for a candidate's experience, fit in the role/culture in 15 minutes - would recommend extending screening calls to 30 minutes.

Question 1
Tell me about your experience working with different internal teams and about a time where you had to push back on an ask/deliverable.
Thank you for sharing your experience and sorry to hear you felt rushed in your phone interview. We don’t want anyone to feel this way so based on your feedback, we’ve now adjusted our phone interview process to ensure candidates always have an opportunity to showcase their skills & experiences beyond the questions asked. We put a lot of value in face-to-face team interaction especially at this strong stage in our growth trajectory and unfortunately, 100% work from home opportunities are not on our radar at this time. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at FreshBooks (Toronto, ON) in Sep 2017
Interview
1. Phone interview with recruiter
2. Phone interview with hiring manager
3. In-office interview with hiring manager and peer-level team member
4. Was told by recruiter that next step would be technical interview with hiring manager, within next two weeks
5. Followed up with thank you note to recruiter and with my availability (as requested)
6. Radio silence for a few weeks (not uncommon)
7. Follow up note from recruiter that recruitment is paused but will be back up within the week (obvious red flag)
8. Never heard from FreshBooks again
I got a good sense of what FreshBooks is all about by how they treat potential employees. To bring a candidate in for an in-person interview and not have the respect to follow up makes me believe they wouldn't respect employees. In a way I'm glad they showed their true colours, but I wish my time wasn't wasted. I moved on, if you're reading this you should consider moving on as well.
