I applied for the DevOps Engineer in Vancouver. Got a response from a Senior Recruiter in Texas a few weeks later to setup an initial screen. I was given their Calendly link to book a time slot so I booked a 30min slot in 2 days. Got a confirmation email with calendar invite with the Zoom link. So the day comes to do the screen and nobody joins the Zoom meeting. I email the recruiter that I've joined the meeting after 10mins, still no response. So after 15mins I'm assuming they're not joining. So I use the same Calendly link to book the same time slot the next day and email her again to say I've rescheduled. She responds back with a email listing the Canadian benefits, no explanation or apology for missing the meeting. Now lets skip to the next day. I join the meeting, no one on it for 5mins, I was just about to email her AGAIN but she joins. Now here comes the most UNPROFESSIONAL experience I've ever had with a recruiter, and I thought it's been pretty sketchy so far. She joins the meeting not even sitting at her desk and says "Sorry if you hear screaming, my husband just came home unexpectedly and my child is screaming. I could strangle them right now. Can we reschedule next week." I didn't know what to say, I was literally frozen, I understand that family can be a distraction but if this is how you first meet a candidate, what a great way to represent the company. So I confirm that a time works and reschedule to next week. Now lets skip to next week. At this point, I'm wondering if they're going to show up. So I join the meeting again, and surprise surprise, no one on for 5mins, then she joins. She says sorry she was late, she was hung up in a meeting. Way to respect my time...again and again. So now starts the screening, I felt she wasn't prepared and just glanced over my resume. She told me about their hybrid schedule and then she asked what my salary expectations were. I gave her my range and she then said, "Oh, this is more of a junior role and we can't go any higher". She then said she'll go to the hiring manager to see if there's any movement on the range and if it works out they'll contact me back. This whole screening call was about 5mins long. This Senior recruiter ABSOLUTELY wasted a week of my time, not to mention if this role is truly "junior" post the salary range or post the title as Junior DevOps Engineer. Like lets not waste each others time. I really had high hopes of potentially working for Imperva, but this recruiter really ruined my experience with the company and honestly, just because you're the gatekeeper to the next step in the hiring process, have some respect for the candidates. And if this recruiter is unhappy at Imperva, maybe its time to find a new job.
