1st interview: 45 mins with hiring manager and program manager, standard resume questions
2nd interview: 1 hour with hiring manager and program manager (again) plus a Project Manager and Scrum Master. Was asked to prepare a 5-8 minute presentation presenting a project plan and write an email summarizing timeline to my manager. Questions were asked about the presentation and thought process.
3rd interview: 1 hour with hiring manager, program manager, 2 directors and HR rep. I was told this was a meet and greet but was very much like a 1st interview, scenario based questions and HR questions about core values.
Heard back a week after the 3rd interview that I would not receive an offer because the HR rep in the 3rd interview vetoed the hire because of "culture fit". Never heard of this happening this late in the interview process. Several weeks of prep and interviewing with several people I would be working with day to day only for the HR rep to squash the hiring was infuriating. They never asked for a reference or anything to dig in further to my work history or learn how my previous team members experience was working with me. To go through 3 interviews (1 presentation) and have the HR rep pull the plug at the end is mind boggling and I can only assume Mitacs is not a place where they empower their employees to make decisions on their own and are more concerned about finding people that fit their culture and don't ask questions. Thankfully I will not be working there.
