Why you apply
As much as I wanted to do the work there, the most difficult thing they presented me with was the work schedule. Even as an assistant, they require a minimum workweek of 45 on-the-clock hours, with only a 30 minute lunch. No overtime, it is a salaried position, and there would be overtime as demanded, on top of the 45 hours a week with no compensation aside from the verbal promise that anything over 45 hours could be shorted on a different week. This extra 5 hours a week alone adds up to over 250 additional hours of work a year being required over the standard 40, and the description of the job does not match what the State of Washington requires for a salaried position, which is someone in a management or supervisory field, which this position was not. It's too bad because everything was really great about this company, and I wanted badly to do the work, but it felt like the powers that be (which were far above the fellows I was interviewing with) seemed to be inflexible with these ideas.
