Description EHN Canada is a collection of treatment facilities across Canada, our history goes back further than that and we carry the legacy of many notable psychiatrics who helped advance clinical progress in mental health and addiction treatment:
• Dr. Gordon Bell, founder of North America's first public hospital for addiction treatment, in 1967. Dr. Bell developed the "alco-dial" with the help of Ken Ferguson; the alco-dial was an early device used by police to read breathalyzer tests and measure blood alcohol levels based on averages. Bellwood Health Services, our site in Toronto, ON, founded by Dr. Bell celebrated 40-year anniversary last year • Dr. Chiasson, founder of Nouveau Départ Montréal, our location in QC, that celebrated 30 years last year, has devoted all of his energy to the assessment, detoxification, treatment and screening of co-morbid alcoholism and drug addiction disorders. He is an international expert in co-morbid alcoholism and drug addiction disorders, and he has been involved in research and teaching. • Edgewood Treatment Centre in Nanaimo, BC, celebrated 30-year anniversary in 2024. Co-founded by Jane Ferguson who along with her husband was in recovery, spent years working in the addiction treatment field in numerous locations throughout the United States before arriving on Vancouver Island in 1981. By 1984 their combined talent and expertise resulted in a 22-bed treatment facility for men on Meredith Road in Nanaimo, BC, just a short walk from the current Edgewood site.
As we continue to expand our presence across the country, our facilities all maintain a common goal: to provide the best standard in research-based treatment for all Canadians. At EHN Canada, we take care of you and your loved ones through the entire healing journey.
