Through about a dozen operating subsidiaries, the specialty contractor builds and repairs railways; installs signals and train control systems; and maintains track right-of-ways. Founded in 1998, RailWorks offers additional services such as track inspections, railroad bridge construction and maintenance, specialty rail installation for cranes and historic sites, and derailment response. Clients include railroads, transit authorities, municipalities, ports, industrial manufacturers, agribusinesses, and energy companies. Private equity firm Wind Point Partners, along with company management, owns RailWorks.
