Toxic environment - STAY AWAY!

Pros

Flexibility to work from home 3-4 days a week

Cons

Toxic environment in every department. I worked at Aldo Group for 2.5 years, I don’t know how I lasted such a long time. It’s a toxic environment where everyone talks behind everyone’s back. Management micromanages their employees. I worked from home most of the time I can’t even imagine if I had to work from the office most week days. HR department is a complete mess that protects the directors at all costs so no matter how good the employee is, you will be let go to protect the directors who are simply dreadful to work for. A lot of upper management is hired on a ‘i know you basis’ and not based on qualifications, Once they see that you are more qualified than them at a lower position you will live through a nightmare because they fear for their job. I saw this in all departments and finally quit this horrible environment. STAY AWAY!!!

Pros

- 50% discount for employees on most products - Good for networking in industry - Generous travel budget/per diem - Good insurance coverage and EAP

Cons

- Very low pay compared to market for same job - Toxic culture - Sexual harassment and improprieties from cafeteria staff to upper management - Management-heavy org chart, pushing excessive work on to lower paid employees - Constantly promoting the same people, those who are in the inner circle, and rarely reward the employees who are doing the work - Advertise that they are a family-first / work/life balance focused company, but workloads are often unmanageable within a normal work week - Attrition - often people are doing 2 jobs that used to cost the company 2 salaries, for a single salary - Privately owned, so lots of shady dealings that benefit the owners only, on the backs of employees' underpaid efforts

No development plan for employees, annual reviews mean nothing

Pros

- Nice office space with gym - Good benefits and discounts - Great colleagues (in some departments) - Flexible hours

Cons

- Low salaries. - No room for growth - very little promotion from within. - High employee turnover; many burn-outs due to high workload. - Work happens in silos, not a lot of collaboration. - No pulling of learnings from past projects; always starting from scratch. - Lack of transparency when something goes wrong. - No compensation for overtime & it's expected that everyone does overtime. - All decision making happens up top, Director level and below are just executing on superiors' orders. - It doesn't matter what you say during your annual review, it's your manager's feedback that goes to HR. - It doesn't matter whether your manager is critical or appreciative of your work, your salary increase will be 2% per year. - No clarity on vacation policy. Many go with zero vacation days in the first year. - Office location is difficult to access and there's nothing but wilderness and suburban housing all around. - The nice part of the office space stops where the working area starts for some - no windows in many departments. - Meals are "subsidized" but it will still burn a hole in your wallet.
