Pros

It's an organization that generally helps the public.

Cons

This organization needs someone like the cookie monster, Dr. Duckett or like Duncan Campbell back, that they got rid of because they actually knew what they were doing with running a company. AHS needs someone with some business and financial sense to run this organization and the rural areas - not a doctor that just has crap put in her ear and goes with that. No doubt Verna Yu is intelligent, but the organization needs business experience. Very toxic environment in IT health exchange department. Inexperienced leadership, but even worse incompetent and don't care. Just a spin doctor. ED and Director's are bullies, because of the ED, but they made that decision to be like that. Lack of direction - just orders. If you speak up and show facts that go against what leadership wants to hear, you will be targeted and your life made miserable at every turn until you quit, because of their incompetence and own insecurities... you may show them up by doing your job correctly. No pay increase for 8 years for non-union. Used to have good benefits and the premiums kept going up, and you'll get a surprise when a claim is submitted and rejected or moved from medical spending account to personal spending... with ZERO notification from HR that this was happening. Still spend just because they have the budget. Just bad, bad for a tax payer that sees their bills and taxes go up, benefits reduces, after no raise for years... and waste, such waste. Treat you like a farm animal at CN tower, shovel staff cube to cube, it's a call centre, not a business office. Just such a disappointment. It is 100% because of poor leadership. AHS can do SOOOO MUCH BETTER. I'd be willing to help clean it up, but my opinion might offend a few. :-)

Pros

A pay cheque and some benefits

Cons

- Wasn't acknowledged or valued -Underwhelmed by a complete lack of meaningful work -All the work I was assigned was "make work" projects that had no impact on the betterment of out health care system - Was never properly introduced to any of the senior management that I sit literally 30 feet from. -During the hiring process it was a huge ordeal to negotiate a reasonable wage. With 4 years of education they wanted to start me at $48K , which would be barely enough to pay for the basics in Calgary. (Especially considering the 50K I have to pay off in student debt) To put this into perspective people with 2 year tech degrees usually start between 65-75K. -The workplace culture is completely siloed and more awkward than a junior high dance.

Pros

It's a paycheque and that is about it

Cons

Very cliquey. No training. No motivation to work hard if the next three years there is no sight of any time of wage increase. Management is unsupportive.
