Pros

Get to meet alot of good and smart people, especially the engineering team. Unfortunately lots of them left since late last year and are continuing to leave.

Cons

In this company, profits come first. It's OK that product is still in development and half-baked, just launch it first. Any concerns you have over stability & performance will be dismissed to facilitate quick to market. After that, you get blamed for these issues, and the persons who dismissed your concerns get promoted to Lead role for "streamlining" processes making processes "slicker". A complete farce. Public is distrustful of the product and the company, thanks to these process-streamlining-expert-lead. The negative highly unprofessional PR stunt makes thing worse.

Thank you for your review and positive feedback for our Engineering team. Over the past two months, Babylon has carried out the vital process of reviewing our engineering platform, technology tribe structure and general capabilities to ensure the product is more scalable and to support long-term global delivery. The COVID-19 crisis has obviously also had a huge impact on both our clients’ needs and delivery requirements, and we have had to review our structures to reflect our short-term delivery needs. This work resulted in around 5% of our workforce being furloughed in the UK as they were not critical to current delivery while others have left the business as they fell outside of the scope of our renewed longer-term focus. During those same two months, we have seen a resultant upturn in the number of negative reviews, with March and April now representing nearly 50% of the total reviews Babylon has received in its six years history on Glassdoor. Within Babylon we have a strong safety culture across our engineering, product and clinical operations teams, and closely monitor all aspects of safety, so that we comply with best practice in all areas. We don’t just rely on our internal processes; we are audited, inspected and reported on by numerous external bodies, and we score highly, i.e. the recent report by the CQC in which we were rated outstanding for being well-led. None of our products get released without passing safety testing, that is done every time, whether it be for the release of a brand-new product or a minor feature change. Safety approval is required for all changes in the live product. At Babylon, we really value our open and collaborative culture and carry out a survey among our two thousand employees every two weeks anonymously using an independent platform, collecting thousands of data points to assess the true feelings of Babylonian across many different subjects. Our survey shows when asked, ‘How likely is it you would recommend Babylon as a place to work?’, 71% scored 7 or more out of 10.

Pros

The staff on the ground level are all hard working, good people who just want to do the best they can

Cons

The exec team are a joke. None of them actually really care about patient needs, yet try to brag as if they are the experts. They are tone deaf to anything about clinical acceptance, product safety, technical debt, platform limitations or even discuss the value of staff. They frequently change direction for projects that have not been thought out and are likely not going to see the light of day. Also, pay promotions and bonuses are only for those who lied their way up.

Not good

Pros

The role was advertised as AI but in reality there's no AI work involved at all and everything was done manually. Everything was laboriously done by local doctors. It's hard to be confident about the final accuracy of the model because input tend to be very subjective across limited number of doctors, with little context and not much information given.

Cons

Local contract doctors are treated poorly. Communication has been handled badly and we are all confused what we are supposed to do. After we put in honest hours and produced our work, Babylon tried to undercut our hours and pay us less. Please, honest pay for honest work. If you feel we spent too much time on the assigned work, then you should communicate properly and provide clearer instructions. It seems that the company does not even know what it's looking for and that results in poor planning and direction changing all the time. Our payments are always miscalculated and paid out 2-3 months late. The finance team handling this were also very rude and unprofessional.
