Why Cathay is different from other airlines

Pros

People really are important at Cathay, top management makes that very clear. Cathay is a big company with more than 20,000 employees but feels like a family. Senior management and the major shareholder, Swire, have a very long term perspective and do not manage to the next quarter, they look 5-10 years out at a minimum.

Cons

Cathay is an airline, oil price volatility hits it hard. People do not work at Cathay to get rich, but they stay because of the supportive, friendly environment.

Pros

It is ok for few years. Not a company that you can grow with.

Cons

The flights out of Vancouver are all red-eyed. The pay is very low compare with other local airlines after years of service. The management is poor and they are not following Canadian labor law standard.
