Increasingly not worth it for Canadian employees

Pros

Interesting problems and fast paced work that gives you a lot of autonomy. In absolute terms, compensation is pretty good.

Cons

- Thoughtless reorgs cause thrash. - Work life balance is awful - Quote from the COO "we know a lot of you are sprinting, that's life at Coinbase" - Continually talking about operational issues, but unwilling to pay for people to handle them. - Exec team seems very out of touch. Specifically for Canadian employees: - Benefits have been reduced over the past 2 years. - No raises have been given. - Pay is significantly less than US peers. - My feeling is that the company is trying to suss out just how much they can short-change Canadians. If you're considering joining from Canada, keep in mind that Coinbase is actively reducing our comp package over time. Would not recommend for anyone. But if you're Canadian, wouldn't even consider joining right now.

Upper management is simply bad, lots of managers from Google and Facebook which brings all the toxic practices of a tech corporation.

High total comp Generally very smart people

Cons

Senior leadership (and CEO) is too hands on and doesn't trust staff, tons of thrash due to this when teams are in build phase Remote culture here doesn't respect working hours at all, especially if you're on the east coast (people messaging you expecting answers at 8pm) Eng teams always under water and don't get time to invest in really good environments (they barely have an e2e testing infrastructure setup) Getting things done here takes 2x as long as other places I've worked at due to stiff ownership boundaries and lack of help from other teams
