Pros
I have been working at this datacenter for close to two years, and it has been fascinating to witness the changes occurring here. There have been significant growing pains at this datacenter, evident from the moment I began working here, but it is clear things are changing for the better. A new CFM has been hired by BGIS, which already in the brief time he has been here has led to a substantial positive impact in the working environment. If you want to grow and be a part of change, this is the place to be. As a prior navy nuke, I believe the experience I have gathered here to be invaluable for my career. The opportunity to develop professionally by transitioning to higher positions based off work ethic and determination is not matched anywhere I’ve found. Skills developed in the military directly correlate to what is required to succeed at this datacenter. This is a great place to work, particularly for an individual looking to be part of a company dramatically improving itself and making noticeable steps forward. I would argue this is the best time to be a part of a company, as you get to be a part of those changes. At no other time in a company will you be able to make such an impact and have as great an opportunity to prove yourself. Starting out, you receive 16 days of paid vacation a year, which is extremely competitive for new-hires. Being on shift, I work 12 hour shifts 3 days one week and 4 days the next – essentially giving me half the year off. This enables me the ability to go to school full time quite easily, which was a major factor for me when looking for work after my service.
Cons
• As mentioned in some other reviews, BGIS is a vendor, and the datacenter being owned by the client can lead to some challenges regarding communication and client expectations. It is my opinion these challenges are being resolved as time goes on and our management team becomes stronger and BGIS develops a closer working relationship with the client. • Currently, team members are not utilized where their strengths lie. • High turnover rate. I list this as a con, because I think some people will view this as such, but in my opinion a high turnover-rate breeds opportunity. For those who find this a negative, this is also stabilizing. Most individuals who have left the company did so because of previous management teams, or because they were un-willing to be a part of, and work for, solutions to problems. • Because of my GI bill, this isn’t as big of a deal to me or to other veterans seeking a job here, but the company’s education benefits are probably the most in need of improvement. Currently, the company offers $1000 in assistance a year. The positive however is the benefit can be used towards any school, class, certification, etc., which relates to your position.
