Pros

Some co-workers are great to work with. Center Physician is great! Student donors are good to work with.

Cons

I have never worked with such unprofessional, unorganized and poorly trained managers in my life. Training is poor and they hurry to get employees that they hire working the job which they are hired to do. Once you are working, they expect you to work as fast as possible in a very busy atmosphere. Forget about getting any type of raise or advancement unless you become one of their cliche. In order to do that you have to go out and party with them, drink, get an OWI, and sleep with them. Then they will think you are cool. Their computer system is a severely out dated DOS based system, which is confusing and not user friendly. They still rely on donor information to be paper based along with the out dated computer program. This unorganized record keeping opens up for daily human error to occur. It amazes me how the FDA still allows this company to run and produce products. I have seen how one of their competitors run and they are very well organized and the process runs smoothly!

Pros

Great entry level work, offers training without a need for any prior phlebotomy experience, but not really much else beyond that. Co-workers were very fun and easy to get along with. The environment was welcoming, and it offers plenty of opportunities to learn and grow alongside everyone, in the beginning. However, limits to growth begin to appear after a short time (more in Cons). Benefits were competitive compared to many entry level and full time options, however this can come at the cost of wages. It felt very difficult to build general savings. Corporate politics skew conservative (typical of biotech, biopharm industries), but the center culture itself offered me opportunities to express myself and meet coworkers and clientele of a diverse array of backgrounds.

Cons

Opportunities for growth and learning begin to feel limited, with the exception of pursuing leadership or flexibility in other areas. Tasks begin to feel monotonous, especially with the added burden of the days where (repeat) customers feel like the endless stream of rudeness and entitlement that it can often be, along with standing for long hours. To top it off, wage is beneath the going rate for beginning phlebotomists (11.00 > 12.36, after the company was bought by Grifols and everyone received a dollar raise, and then a 3% max raise for performance review after the new year). Management is often tone deaf to employee concerns, and may even value customers over employee health and safety. Turnover rate is fairly high. In about the span of a year, about 20-30 people left the company. Shifts are often shorthanded, but management is strict regarding overtime pay.
