Pros

Working with clients can be incredibly rewarding and developing functional relationships with the people you support can make for a good work experience -- if management provided sufficient support to do my job safely. Pay is decent.

Cons

Management did not provide me with NCI training prior to being scheduled to working with clients. Witnessed countless examples of basic CLBC requirements not being met by the location I worked at. WCB rules also were being violated; poor handling of incidents involving injured staff. Workplace had a culture of "keep your head down and don't cause issues", Both staff and clients are put at risk by hiring workers (often international students) who have no experience in this industry and providing them with minimal training. Extremely high staff turnover, poor initial disclosure about workplace hazards. No on-site supervision, managers are juggling responsibilities at too many locations. Union presence is basically invisible. Most workers don't even know they have a union representative.
