Pros

The exposure to novel cutting-edge MHA research and professional connections, and opportunity to learn many skills. The opportunity to work along side a team of highly capable and passionate colleagues and clinicians. There are wonderful people, and the below comments are only in reference to the direct management relevant to this role and no longer apply to upper management (there has been a recent change in leadership).

Cons

There are many reviews that do a phenomenal job in explaining the core issues within the Slaight department. Please take these warning seriously. However, as a large department, the following comments don’t reflect on all research labs, but on the shared experience for those of us in select areas. If you are looking for a temporary position without advancement and are willing to put up with possible psychological abuse, micromanaging, bullying, minimization, and unethical behaviour, then perhaps consider this position. Many of use have been burned deeply by the treatment we received and do not wish that on anyone else that has a passion to contribute to this area of MHA research.

Pros

Flexibility, working in an environment where education, compassion and intelligence are encouraged. Some of the best human beings on the plant work for CAMH and I was proud to be a member of this organization. The work CAMH does has meaning and influence on a daily basis. This is an organization which surpasses the standards it sets for itself, and provides a level of care not matched anywhere else in mental health. CAMH is simply an extraordinary organization with wonderful clients and employees.

Cons

Oscassional vicarious traumas, shift work, lack of advancement unless you complete a significant level of education (e.g. If you have not completed a PhD your opportunities can be limited in certian fields).
