Pros
- Lovely and supportive colleagues in both my division and the office. - Very chill work environment. - Zero micromanagement. - Regularly received paid training on various tax topics. - Great work/life balance. You will never work past 5pm. Plus you have the benefit of the hybrid work model. - Good extended health plan. - The Vancouver office is very nice and has lots of natural lighting.
Cons
- I was not hired back into a permanent position due to budget cuts, contrary to what was originally planned/orally communicated to me. - Other appeals officers (hired as an AU-03) were making twice as much as I was as a student (hired as an SU-04), despite completing the same level of education and doing literally the exact same work as other appeals officers. - Students cannot file grievances to the union about pay because SUs are not represented by the union. - Onboarding took quite a long time - about 3 months (from the initial interview, a follow up interview, reliability status security clearance, receiving an offer, to the start date). - The location of the Vancouver office is so-so (not many food options nearby). - The Vancouver office is essentially all cubicles where most colleagues' conversations are via Teams.
