Pros

The training is paid and timings are suitable for students.

Cons

In my second week of training, due to thunderstorms in Windsor, I got soaked as I take a bus and have to walk 2 km. I had an umbrella but it broke due to windy weather and I was all wet. The training was of 4 hours, after 2 hours in, I was shivering due to AC in office, so I requested my manager to leave 2 hours early in the fear of getting ill. I did not want to fall ill and take leave during training. I even offered the manager to train my missed 2 hours on some other time but they refused the offer. A day after that, I got a call from my HR and they said there was an attendance issue and I got fired. They were even not ready to listen to any explanations from my side. Even after 2 weeks of the incident, I am wondering that is it okay for a manager to ask an employee who is all wet and shivering to ask to continue working and even after getting permission to leave early, is it okay for HR to fire the employee stating an attendance issue. In the situation above, there was little to nothing I could do to avoid the weather, I had an umbrella but it broke.

Good pay, low drama, good equipment, consistent work. Appreciate that they don’t make us drive in bad weather.

Cons

No overtime pay, sometimes unpredictable schedules with dock work, no layover pay for when we’re sitting, not great benefits, no holiday pay.
