Pros

My review is limited as an employee of a company that was acquired by GreenShield. When I was an Inkblot employee, before being acquired by GreenShield, the team was empathetic, kind, driven, and passionate. We had a good work-life balance and people were trusted with unlimited PTO and remote work. I've enjoyed working at Inkblot, but now lots of talented people are leaving as a result of slashing PTO & a poorly rolled-out hybrid RTO policy, as well as an increasingly psychologically unsafe workplace environment and people being pushed out/fired without cause because of "restructuring". The turnover of empathetic folks in positions like management, employee experience, people and culture, and diversity initiatives truly speak the truth of how terrible the culture is.

Cons

- internal communications are confusing and delivered with a distinct lack of empathy - leadership is out of touch with modern tech workforce - hybrid/return to work policy is exclusionary to many people including caregivers, Disabled, and neurodivergent folks, as well as contributing further to the climate crisis by having more people commute (3 days/week hybrid RTO within 150km of an office is absolutely unreasonable) - senior leadership is not present and very uninspiring - profit over people approach (promotes itself as a company who doesn't, but in the end is a health insurance company that benefits off of degrading accessible public and free health care) - reducing benefits, removing remote work and drastically reducing PTO despite feedback and pushback from employees felt demoralizing and shows that leadership does not actually care about employees - very hypocritical since they talk all the time about "better health for all", ignoring the mental and physical health of employees - no attempt at DEI, exclusionary to people outside of being cis, male, white, and a combination of the above. Lack of training and understanding of diversity and inclusion for racialized and LGBTQ2S+ employees, resulting in many people being excluded or forced out - benefits packages are as confusing as they can possibly make it. Many different platforms that need to be signed up for, having to pay for some extra benefits, and lack of documentation means that no one knows how to make use of things like drug coverage (which is minimal) and often gets rejected

Pros

• Hybrid model (3 days working from home)

Cons

• Heavy workload • Low salary • Lack of recognition, no rewards and a general feeling of not being valued • Compensation is limited to base salary only, with no bonus, annual increases are around 2% even when expectations are met, which does not keep pace with inflation • Limited or no growth opportunities

GreenShield Response

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for your contributions to GreenShield over the past several years. We’re pleased to hear the hybrid work model has been a positive part of your experience, and we remain committed to offering flexibility that supports both our employees and the needs of our business. As GreenShield continues to grow, the pace and complexity of work have increased across many areas. This is a deliberate part of scaling the organization and delivering on our commitments. We actively manage this through prioritization, team-level planning and ongoing support. We also want to provide important context on several of the points raised. GreenShield regularly benchmarks compensation against the market and individual performance to ensure it remains competitive. Our total rewards approach extends beyond base salary and includes development investment, benefits and recognition programs. On recognition, we do not align with the view that recognition is absent. In addition to formal programs like Applause, which enables real-time peer recognition and rewards, leaders are expected to actively acknowledge contributions and support their teams. These expectations are clear and embedded within our leadership accountabilities. Similarly, opportunities for growth and development are a core part of the employee experience. Employees have access to structured development planning, leadership programs and an annual $2,000 learning allowance, supported by regular check-ins to support career progression. Suggesting there are limited or no opportunities for growth does not reflect the range of development pathways available across the organization. While individual perspectives on workload, compensation and growth may vary, many employees continue to build long-term careers and take on new opportunities at GreenShield as the organization evolves. We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.
