I worked at Parmalat for almost 2 years. At first I thought it was my dream job, my team was great and there seemed to be a lot of opportunity for upward movement. This lasted for about 6 months before my direct manager began to be extremely unprofessional and inappropriate towards me.
I went one level above him, to his direct manager, a number of times with sexual harassment and workplace harassment complaints that were backed by inappropriate text messages, emails, and instant messages. There was absolutely no action taken aside from a few chats with him.
The harassment continued and after another 6 months I went to HR. HR was aware of the issue for 4 months before they did anything at all. There was no major action taken, he is still employed there, and I had to look for another job because I feared for my personal safety (which I told HR).
The way this company deals with sexual harassment and workplace harassment is completely disgusting. I know of two other cases in the past, one of sexual harassment, and one of workplace harassment where HR has taken the side of the individuals responsible for the harassment and the victims are left to resolve the issues on their own.
I would never work here again. I strongly believe that no action was taken due to my lack of seniority and the fact that my complaints were against an individual who had been with the company for a number of years.
I am appalled that a company of this size would allow this kind of behaviour to persist.
