Accountability Without Authority - Leadership That Punches Down - Sales Neilson Financial Services Employee Review

Pros

I witnessed the company evolve through different phases. There is a decent life insurance licensing sponsorship and sales training program, which is a genuine benefit for those new to the industry looking to get licensed.

Cons

Culture is BRUTAL. Leadership at every level tends toward sycophancy. The existing Sales GM is ruthless, and new leadership above her appears to be fully aligned with that approach rather than course-correcting it. Managers are routinely called out in group settings, belittled, and put on the spot. You are held accountable for outcomes you are given no authority to influence. When pressure comes from above, leadership will not hesitate to shift blame downward. The negative reviews accumulating over the past few years reflect a real pattern, not noise.

Pros

One of the better sales environments that I have seen. Healthy competition between agents but still a sense of commonality and cheering on your coworkers. They have an R&R room to step away and take a break and the actual break room is far enough removed from the floor that you can really take time to eat and relax and not get sucked back in to work. The company is pretty diverse and the management team makes themselves available when needed. Expectations have increased on showing up on time and being professional but it still does not feel micromanaged but rather creates coaching environment. This isn't a sales job where you are pressured to crank out unrealistic daily numbers and get yelled at or worry about job security because of it. In fact turnover is refreshingly low. Pay is competitive and they make growth paths very clear.

Cons

With all the new growth things have become cramped but that will be fixed next month when we move to a brand new office. As with all start ups, sometimes technology and processes take awhile to catch up with the company but overall Neilson does a great job recognizing the issues and working to correct them.
