Cons
If I were to go into full detail about my five plus years at Peninsula Canada, most people wouldn’t believe me, nor would they understand why anyone would stay that long. The truth is, everything about this organization is precisely designed to keep you trapped: constantly hungry, endlessly competitive, and fearful of losing everything you’ve built. At Peninsula, employee retention is not a consideration, with a culture reinforces: stepping on colleagues, misleading clients, and using fear tactics on small business owners who are often already in distress. Perks or flexibility that other organizations offer simply don’t exist here. Instead, you can expect a call at 2pm on Christmas Eve with five minutes’ notice to drive 5 hours round trip to meet an unqualified prospect who was misled into thinking you’re from WSIB. This is the standard - dirty marketing tactics are created to fool a prospect into thinking you are representing WSIB, WCB, MOL. . . etc. Recently, after a record-breaking quarter, the CEO pulled the sales team in on an unpaid Saturday — not to celebrate, but to punish the team for not performing like that “all along.” His message was simple: if work-life balance matters to you, leave. That moment summed up the company’s philosophy perfectly. Corporate functions after-hours are often riddled with inappropriate behaviour, substance use, and a complete lack of professionalism. The “golden handcuffs” are real: commissions are paid nine months in arrears, which traps successful salespeople into staying long after they’ve lost all motivation, waiting for income they’ve already earned. Adding to an already unhealthy workplace. C suite Leadership is largely unqualified — C level Head of Sales whose tone is as stale as his ideas, and a CEO whose ego routinely drives top performers out the door. The environment is disorganized, manipulative, and often abusive. You’ll be pitted against your peers, even against a junior team selling the same product under a different brand at a lower value, and any deal that doesn’t close within a 14-39 day window is stripped away and handed to someone else. The pressure is relentless and demoralizing. Finally, women are not respected within this organization. The gender imbalance in the sales team speaks for itself, and anyone who dares to be ethical, family-oriented, or empathetic will be quickly sidelined. If you value your mental health, integrity, and professional growth - I cannot stress this enough - look elsewhere. There are plenty of organizations that take pride in their people, foster retention, and understand that sustainable success requires balance, respect, and integrity. Peninsula Canada is not one of them. I look forward to the response to this review, though I can almost predict it. I’m sure Peninsula will attempt to dismiss it as the words of a “disgruntled former employee.” But that couldn’t be further from the truth. The majority of the team is not disgruntled - they are dedicated, loyal, and successful. Finding success by keeping to themselves and handling business dealings with clients honestly. Many simply reach the point where they are no longer willing to wear the golden handcuffs or remain silent in an environment where manipulation is rewarded and abuse is ignored. I suggest looking for an organization that values integrity, empathy, and the people behind the numbers.
