Pros

-work from home, even pre-pandemic there's rarely any need to go office. -USA offices are good, but everywhere else such as Canada and India aren't good. -CPA-approved office. -Diverse teams.

Cons

-no team morale because most IA work can be done at home, new team members do not know the older staffs - strong distrust amongst teams. Toxic culture. -IAFA Toronto Team lacks good leadership. Half of the team quitted in 2021 and they posted a bunch of jobs recently because the team is now severely understaffed. -there are no junior staffs being hired. They only hire senior consultants at minimum. So there are a bunch of seniors with no junior staffs and absolutely no promotion opportunities. It takes 5 years as a senior to get to manager. In IT audit it could take 5+ years to become manager. -sub-par salary and bonuses. They simply convert USD to CAD without taking account for Canada's high tax rates and inflation. -You could be assigned to toxic clients and the MD at IAFA supports the client rather than its own staff. Client threatens to report you to your MD all the time knowing the MD sides with them. At least 5 staffs quitted due to a toxic client. -deceptive recruitment practices. You will do only IT/Internal Audit in your role. Foundation program is highly criticized.

Pros

1) Chicago office has a good culture, overall. It’s not perfect but most of the people are great. 2) Work-life balance score has been solid (about 5+ years of insights here) 3) Although it was not great this year, Incentive compensation has overall been pretty good over the course of 5+ years. Much better than big 4 in my experience.

Cons

1) Since 2023, the culture hasn’t been great for a variety of reasons (mainly due to sluggish performance and growing too fast) 2) It feels more like a temporary staffing agency versus a consulting firm for a lot of the time. 3) There has been an awkward push for a return to the office and more business development focus that is in stark contrast to what most Protiviti people value. 4) Most people I talk to say they are not motivated by most of the MDs they interact with (this is significant in my opinion).
