Pros

At its best, Seed Company has a great mission and strong field methodology. It is also exceptional at fund-raising. Salaries are about halfway between typical faith-based 501(c)3 and the secular marketplace.

Cons

In 2 years, the tech division had > 75% turnover and I went through 6 reorgs. :-( Other teams have had turnover almost as bad. Person after person who falls out of favor with leadership is reassigned dead-end roles unrelated to their experience or training, until they quit. This happened over and over again. The last person in senior leadership with serious BT experience was recently sidelined. SC is now basically two orgs. Field & Finance are still doing what they've always done but with ever-increasing turnover and discouragement. The rest of the organization is a business focused on the primary customer. If you interview, be sure to ask, "Who is the organization's primary customer?" It's not unreached peoples, the local Church, or any other group typical to missions. Most focus is around marketing investment opportunities to the primary customer. The CIO is over software development, other tech, project management, business analysis, user experience, creatives, videography, writers, and communications; he is also deeply involved in fund-raising. He isn't a detail person, is usually out of the office, and brags that he doesn't read email. Hint: If he tells you something, get it in writing.

Pros

- Some of the kindest, most talented people are working at functional levels - Former CEO Larry led with a humility, wisdom, and openness that permeated the culture - A compelling mission with experienced partners in the field - A feeling of family and safety, which can be abused (see below)

Cons

- New CEO hired people who may not be in it for the right reasons; nepotism hires. - Some toxic leaders in upper and middle management value image above growth. Sadly, these leaders cause the org harm and undermine the mission. - Ineffective HR department; often hard to get in contact with to resolve issues.
