Pros

Nothing, not the pay, not the management/leadership in IT. Take lower pay for less stress. The extra 5-10k you make here isn't worth the stress.

Cons

One of the worst IT Environment I have worked in. Since 2020 they have cut staff and constantly doing reorgs. Team of 3-4 are cut down to one person doing all the work. Lots of layer of managers who do nothing and pass the work onto the ones doing operational work. Product team passes on half baked products to operational team. The products will still be in development behind the scene but the product team wants to push everything to operations because they don't want to deal with the buggy products they try to come up with. The product team manager bullies his team and the operational team. The product team manager only hires girls who look good and won't really hired qualified staff. No one wants to work for the Product team because it is so poorly run. They have now decided to outsource IT and moral is very low. Do not read the fake reviews on here left by the company, you will notice they are single sentence review. With all the reorg you are having a new manager every 6 month that you need to prove your worth to. Good luck getting a raise even if your previous manager said you deserved one. The new manager you get in 6 months doesn't know your efforts you have put in. No raise were given in 2020 and 2021. In 2022 I was given a raise of measly 1300 dollars which doesn't cover inflation. A measly 130 bucks a month and then taxes cut that down to like 60 dollar a month. Coworker who worked with me and do the same job got higher raise and a higher bonus (10k raise plus 25k bonus) vs 1300 raise and 10k bonus). Its just because they work there 7+ years and you have been there 3 years they make more of a salary increase and higher bonus than you. Manager favor certain people. There salary is actually lower than industry standards. HR will say your making more money than industry standards, because they research it. Complete lie a they don't even research industry salaries. Its just something they say so that you don't try to ask for a raise. They hire students and will pay them 60-70k, when they should be earning 90k and higher, for the work they do. TC will get students to come in at lower pay and try to solve the problem that TC Energy would have to go out and pay experienced developer to resolve. They use the student and then under pay them when signing them full time. Eventually the student will find a new job or apply for a job internally and demand a 30k raise to their salary to match their co workers. A lot of students have left over the past two years, they don't stay once they notice it a slave shop. Upper management is horrible and bully operational staff. The CIO loves to toot his own horn and use buzz words. He will say the same thing in meeting that you hear over and over, just in different wording. He actually hires his own friends into director roles. You will notice people who have been at TC Energy for 10-15 years not getting promoted but the CIO will bring in his own people in. As well the CIO justified that the reorg was actually recommend by Gartner. Well why is TC Energy paying you such a high salary if a third party is making all the decisions? Since the CIO can't make decisions or run the IT department he has to rely on a third party to make decision. He has a history of out sourcing as it did the same at Encana. No one wants to work for him. He probably has one of the worst reputations in downtown calgary as a lot of people have been burned by him regarding his decision to outsource IT. If he goes to another company, doubt any people would work for him as he has a reputation of outourcing when thing hit the fan. Of course he will get a nice raise and promotion to keep his upscale lifestyle and be able to pay for fancier things in life like cottage. Mental health is something they talk about but it all fluff. Everyone is over worked and has bad mental health. However they will say we are big on mental health. Well how come you have one person doing the work of 4 people? How come mental health isn't important when it comes to company profits? Since moral is so bad and people are leaving the CIO is outsourcing IT to save his own skin. Basically trying to cover his backside of constant reorgs and bad moral. Everyone is jumping ship and they are trying to get people to stay and train overseas people who will be taking over their job. The people who been here for 10-15 years are now doing nothing and waiting to be packaged out. The ones there for 3-5 years are leaving and not waiting on a package. The business is now hiring IT folks as a rogue IT. There was a social gathering at a local pub in downtown and only 15 people showed up since no one really wants to be there. If you get covid and need to stay home for two weeks, since your kids also get it. Good luck, your manager will tell you that your not infectious anymore and come into the office. I was told my manager my entire family is down and out, she said "I ain't no doctor but you not infectious anymore so come into the office". They don't give you the time to even recover and your family recover from covid. Its about having your seat in the chair in the office. As well you will notice that ethnic people working the operational roles and Caucasians in the higher roles. Lot of asians are in the lower role and upper management is all Caucasians. The upper management is the rich Caucasians club. CIO/CFO/President all are Caucasians and always replaced by Caucasians. It would be funny to see these executives live in the shoes of lower level staff for one year. They talk about diversity and inclusion but you can clearly see that the operational staff are all ethnic people and the upper management is all Caucasians. There are perhaps 2-3 non Caucasian managers. I don't like to leave bad reviews for the company but it had to be said. People need to know the shady things that happen here. Most operational staff have mental health issue due to being over worked for the past two years and now the decision to out source IT has left many in bad mental health space.

Pros

I can't say more positive things about the people, including senior leadership. They supported my growth, advocated for me, and were flexible with family priorities, Great onboarding and smooth offboarding. I

Cons

Workload could be a challenge, especially in after hours, expectations would shift frequently, and there was a lot of change to contend with at enterprise and team level. While the change was fairly transparently communicated, it did become tiring to keep up with. Comp was average, but I did feel rewarded for my hard work if you were visible and went above the ask.
