Pros
I would say that ecobee has a good product and pays fairly well which are great pros. The company also cares deeply about their sustainability missions which is a plus.
Cons
During my time at ecobee, I didn't find that the organization lived up to what I had expected when I initially joined. Overall: - People are surface level nice but there is a large degree of politicking and backstabbing that takes place. - Throughout my time, I watched multiple instances of managers, senior managers, directors and C suite individuals explicitly bad mouth employees behind their back. - There seems to be this weird culture of "fear" and micromanagement within the organization as it relates to engaging with upper management/c-suite. - Holiday break was cut "so we can be more inline with our US parent company". However, they get 401K matching and ecobee does not. They also receive stock purchase plan which ecobee does not offer. Management: - My manager was difficult to work with and often asked me to present solutions/ideas to them as the "expert" in my field only for them to often end up giving me exactly what they wanted me to do. My manager also used foul language with me. - During my 6 month review, my manager did not provide me with any clear feedback on what I could be doing to "improve in role". I was completing all tasks assigned to me and proactivity attempting to take on more work. He would only give me tasks meant to further isolate me instead of giving me opportunities to advance my career. - During month 8, my booked a "review" with me to highlight how I was prioritizing "other things" in my role. When I pushed back, he was unable to provide concrete examples of where I missed the mark, thereby rendering the conversation useless. - Given that my manager kept indicating that I was missing the mark. I asked to be put on a PIP in order for there to be accountability and clear documentation of issues and how they are being addressed. - Given that my manager kept indicating that I was missing the mark. I asked to be put on a PIP in order for there to be accountability and clear documentation of issues and how they are being addressed. - While ecobee promised a hybrid work policy, my manager would force me to come in to the office on the schedule that suited them, even if I had no meetings. - I approached HR to let them know about my concerns. I indicated multiple times that I was worried that my manager is attempting to cause problems for me in order to push me out. My HR representative said they would not support the decision and would support me. I was terminated a month later with no PIP. - 2 days prior to my termination, a senior leader within our organization scheduled a mandatory monthly meeting which did not include a video call link in order to force people to come into the office more. This again was not in-line with ecobee's flexible work policy. This decision was made by a few senior people with no discussion with the broader team.
