Pros

Lots of opportunity for advancement. There is always availability to move to other markets. This is a Great company to develop a career in the event industry. FMAV is the largest Canadian owned Av company.

Cons

Unfortunately management clearly break the rules that the employees must follow as per employee handbook. In the response to a previous review dated July 24th it states Upper Management does not have competing businesses and to check dates of internet activity.I thought this referred to a person in management who has been openly running an AV company on the side. according to the person's Linkedin the side business has been operational for 12 years. Long before they started at FMAV. this person very recently left FMAV in order to expand that side AV company. Not only were they running a side AV business they were promoted twice at FMAV while doing so.This person ran their AV company using an FMAV supplied phone and number. They routinely used FMAV equipment to make their own shows happen. It can not be said that management does not have competing side businesses and this is taken very seriously. This went on openly for 3 years.

Appreciate you taking the time to post. Glad you see the excellent career opportunities FMAV offers AV professionals all across the country. The manager you referenced running the AV "side business" is no longer at our company. As such, there is limited value in investigating these claims further. Regarding your assertions about senior management Conflict of Interest; the web sites you reference are for currently inactive businesses that predate the individuals joining the company. Per our Conflict of Interest policy, both people disclosed the existence of these businesses during the hiring process. They are not required to take down an inactive web site. Both individuals also chose to port their previous mobile numbers to FMAV to provide access their business and personal networks in support of their work here. That is why the phone numbers are the same. FMAV will be reminding all employees of the Conflict of Interest Policy as outlined in our employee handbook. We rely on and encourage open communication. In future, if you have a question or concern about a management or employee practice, we suggest you promptly bring it forward to management or HR for clarification/resolution. We have also heard and acknowledge your feedback regarding the twitter post and it has since been removed. Our apologies for any frustration that has caused you. We are reviewing our policies & practices for posting private views and promoting the company on social media.

Pros

-Offers decent experience -Lots of responsibility -Good amount of vacation to start

Cons

-Management has unrealistic expectations, especially considering how poorly they pay -No direction (AT ALL) -Very poor senior leadership -VERY bad at thanking employees or showing any gratitude (which is ironic, because they preach this to their clients) -Extremely poor communication from managers (They don't tell you what they expect and complain when you don't meet their unrealistic expectations) -VERY low pay (Over sell bonus pay which is unattainable) -Poor organization (no protocols in place) -Feels like a start-up company ie. One shared phone for 3 people in tiny "office", wasn't even connected to a printer for 3 months!! -Absolutely terrible! Avoid at all costs! Long hours, unrealistic workload

I'm very confused by this review. We do not have a current National Marketing Programs Manager working at our company. We do not have any employees who have to share a phone or have 3 people in a tiny office. We have a spacious open concept environment and several private rooms for meetings and calls. We also have a recognition program that has given out over $16,000 this year to over 38% of employees (incidentally, 324 peer , manager, and client nominations have been received so far this year). If you have concerns with your level of pay , your workload, or communication with your manager/senior leaders, please reach out to me and I will be pleased to help to resolve the problem.

"Toronto Technician" Thank your for taking the time to post your thoughts. Glassdoor is a great forum to enable open communication. Thrilled you feel heard and supported by our Toronto Management Team. Study after study proves an employee's immediate manager is single most important factor in their satisfaction and engagement. As you indicate there are some periods of "crazy" work hours right now. That's a by-product of being part of a fast paced, growing company. Rest assured your local leaders and HR are working hard recruiting Technicians to provide relief. What concerns me about your post is your Neutral Outlook on FMAV and Disapproval of the CEO (me). Our objective is to have every FMAV employee excited about our future and proud of their part in building it. It appears my team and I have work to do here. I also welcome your feedback on how I can better support you and our overall Toronto team. Unfortunately, your review does not provide any clues on how to do so. I would welcome a conversation on these items to determine how we can improve. If you are comfortable doing so, please reach out. Recognizing that might not be the case you could provide the feedback through Toronto management, HR or printed notes in an envelope that preserve your anonymity . It's difficult to know where to focus without more detail. Look forward to improving our company together.
