Pros

- Large diverse organization - Strong focus on Health & Safety

Cons

- No performance incentives for people beneath management - Toxic work culture. Seems the worst of both companies has been combined to create a new culture - Flat organization with little room for growth - Management often clueless - Promoting unqualified employees. Managers/Team Leads who are not fit to lead teams are often in place - Nepotism - "Industry Standard Wages" which have no performance incentives for people beneath management - Lack of work life balance - Poor processes and often incorrect people in place to improve them - Living in the stone age in terms of technology. Company as a whole is extremely slow to adopt new tech - No career progression planning. Just the yearly administrative drivel in the form of objectives and "personal development"

Pros

They were quick to hire me - whole process took less than a month

Cons

They promise one thing to get you in the door and deliver another. A dirty company to work with where people don't work but rather gossip, play games and are obsessed with cutting each other's feet off. Pay is also well below company standards. They claim working for a name like Lafarge should be sufficient to pay your bills.

Pros

*Excellent benefits *The people are great *Good potential for moving up within the company *The company very much values safety, and it's drilled into your head constantly *Mandatory volunteering from all employees during business hours - 16 hours of volunteer service per employee, per calendar year *Annual bonuses based on business unit performance. If your business unit does well, so will you. *Upcoming merger with Holcim - business will increase exponentially, huge potential for increased revenue It's an exciting place to be if you're passionate about the construction industry. Great people to work with and it has a growing collaborative culture. Lafarge has a reputation for being the leader in the construction materials industry, and employees take pride in that. There is a lot to learn about the industry - it's a great learning experience.

Cons

*A LOT of turnover, at all levels of management *Low staff morale *Some employees are struggling with work-life balance *There's far more work than employees to handle it. More often than not, worked long hours without compensation or recognition - not to get ahead, just to get things done *Vacations. You don't get your annual two weeks' vacation until your second or third consecutive calendar year of service *Mandatory volunteering from all employees during business hours - 16 hours of volunteer service per employee, per calendar year.. It's not the volunteering that's bad - it's when you're swamped and can barely manage your life around work that it's more difficult to donate your time to the company *Organizing a corporate-sponsored social event is like pulling teeth *Completely dependent on head office in France. Corporate decision makers in Paris change their minds a LOT. It's almost impossible to keep up with the changes. *Information Systems infrastructure is stuck in the 1980's *Training to learn essential software programs (ie: A/P, A/R, procurement, etc) is non-existent. Figure it out yourself. *IT support is centralized - takes a really long time to get anything resolved....IF it ever gets resolved *Upcoming merger with Holcim - many more layoffs anticipated, organizational changes imminent. There has been so much turnover over the last couple of years, employees are worried about their jobs....especially those who have been with the company for more than 10 years. It used to be a good family-like place to work, with social events and perks. But things have been going downhill for a while, and there are more changes coming. If you can handle all those cons and put your head down and just work for your paycheque, you might be ok. Ignorance is indeed bliss.
