- Huge disconnect between what projects are promised to clients and what the delivery team can achieve.
The business seems to promise the Earth to whatever client has the biggest chequebook, as well as all the other clients too. It results in the delivery team working around the clock to try and deliver everything at the same time. The team work evenings, weekends, and even on annual leave. The team do not take sick days but it is the common culture to just work from home. The deployment process is so chaotic that no one knows what is being released into production and there are incidents weekly.
The delivery team is full of very talented, hard-working, and dedicated people but the business doesn't even acknowledge their efforts, other than an occasional 'Thank you' email and send more projects their way.
I had wanted to leave for a long time, but felt dedicated to the current project that I was on; only for it to be instantly superseded by a bigger project on a shorter deadline. I'm glad that I left because my mental health was going downhill whilst working here.
