Workload is BRUTAL

Pros

Most of the FRONT-LINE people are concerned about patient care. The executives, admin managers & supervisors and the admin staff (trying to get promoted) are only concerned about their power trips.

Cons

Change and the down loading of duties to lower-level employees is constant and stressful. So many of us take sick days due to stress. Do they recognize that? No. Instead they have a "work-force" dept that are do their biding & hiding their agenda of harassing employees to take less sick days. Is anyone fooled that they are calling it "support" for the employees. NO.

Pros

the hospitals are set in beautiful physical settings. The front-line caregivers are generally decent, well-meaning people, albeit a bit on the lazy side.

Cons

silo thinking from the top, culture of blame, unnecessarily adversarial corporate attitude. No accountability amongst middle management-- the dead wood gets pushed into another portfolio rather than a pink slip.

Pros

Pay and benefits (outside of Victoria) are better than private sector

Cons

Workload is brutal Number of people taking stress leaves is astronomical Company talks the talk with assistance programs but doesn't even crawl the walk; they just don't care Jobs are silo'd and the skills you bring to the organization will atrophy with lack of use Bureaucracy is everywhere. If you have a good idea, keep it to yourself or you will be disappointed Company knows it is the only large employer on much of the island and there are always desperate people knocking at the door, so they suck the life out of the existing staff, knowing they can be easily replaced Every person I have met who has worked here more than a few years, hates coming to work Although unionized, the union is weak and the company for years has been undermining by making most new jobs contract or non-union. Don't expect any help.
