A bad risk

Pros

They are a creative group of people, trying very hard to drive innovation in their niche of the entertainment system industry.

Cons

- Financially weak - ongoing layoffs, cutting corners to get a job done. Well past the point of running a lean ship, they are under staffed and under equipped. - A lot of lip service is given to a "flat" culture where everyone has the same level of responsibility and where departments are working collaboratively. In practice, there are many examples of favoritism and cross-team friction. - When you have senior management (director level) firing off profanities during team meetings, it is clear there is little appreciation of what is acceptable in today's corporate work place. Even in a small company there are standards that need to be followed. - Despite their founding in 2001, in 2013 they are trying to restart almost from scratch and are at the same level of risk and maturity as any new startup company. - Having offices both in Ontario and California, they have not learned how to work across the time zones effectively. Instead there is a constant demand on employees in Ontario to put in full work days plus be available into the evenings to communicate with their counterparts in California. This puts a long-term strain on one's personal time.

Pros

People are smart and committed. The space/industry is interesting. Every employee gets a system to take home.

Cons

Exec level trying to do too much. Company is too slow to change its ideas. Blame game is present during meetings with execs. Everyone is burnt out, but company still asking for more more more. Culture in the engineering office is terrible, and most people seem constantly frustrated with the direction of the company. Lip service paid to company values, but not followed by those at the top-most level.

Pros

Working with a great bunch of people that are highly skilled is always a pleasure. This company is like extended family to me. You can walk up to anyone at any time to ask questions or share information and never have to fear about being turned away. Everybody understands the value and importance of work-life balance as there are a lot of employees with young families. All the tools are available to get your job done, and can be completed in a comfortable work environment.

Cons

As this is a small company, desired industry/domain training is something you need to seek out on your own, but all resources to get your job done are available to you.
