Pros

Flexibility. You follow the schools’ schedule; meaning quiet during the summer and Christmas period. You get paid for the entire year, no matter how quiet it gets during those times when school is not in session.

Cons

Ever since COVID hit, the company has been in a tailspin with constant changes and an inability to get things right. There have been massive layoffs and lots of unknown. Quite recently another change was announced for the region for Ottawa in which alot of great people lost their jobs. Quite simple, management has no idea what they’re doing and have no real plan to get things back on course. Schools are happy and are seeing how inconsistent things have been. The big excuse that gets used a lot internally is that “we’re a big ship and we’re not able to make changes rapidly”. I feel bad for my couple of colleagues that are left and the poor abuse they’re surely to suffer with the upcoming season to come. Schools are in for another rocky upcoming photo season that is to come September 2022. With the layoffs that occurred in Ottawa, schools will have to adapt to new Account Specialists that won’t know much and service will no doubt be awful all around (internally and externally). In conclusion, I wouldn’t recommend working for this company under any circumstance. Poor pay and for the time I worked there, I received no raises.

Pros

Photography experience and working unsupervised

Cons

Very unorganized company. Constant problems with equipment not working, sales reps make promises to schools that photographers are unable or ill-equipped to follow through with. Lots of driving and often you don’t have what you need to start the day like incorrect data in the system, no job bags, schedule changes last minute or only being given one week of schedule in advance. Laid off for 4 weeks at Christmas and one week over March break, even full time people sometimes only get 20hrs a week even though we are promised 40-44. Paid a lower rate for driving even though that’s the most dangerous part of the job. Losing schools to competitors due to incompetency of backend staff.

Pros

You meet lots of great people, however, the staff changes every season due to the low return rate after layoffs. Can be a fun job if you love kids.

Cons

Horrible pay! You are laid off every summer. The equipment ruins your car. Management is extremely cheap and raises are awful. They would rather make more money for themselves instead of investing in good loyal photographers - if they increased the pay they could easily keep the good photographers around for many years instead if hiring awful ones every season. Lots of favouritism in the company as well.
