Pros

Great place to learn. They tend to hire inexperienced workers & Co-op students. Good place to get some experience. They do have benefits, some benefits don't kick in till 2 years of employment (dental coverage increased after 2 years, etc.). The benefits are OK....not nearly as good as other companies offer. If you have other employment opportunities or already have a stable full time job elsewhere, DO NOT consider working at Linamar. If you are new with no work experience, stay 2-3 years, and look for other opportunities.

Cons

Health & Safety standards are a nightmare. Little regard for line worker's input. Fire anyone that might be in favour of unions. Little room for advancement. You need to play the political game to advance/receive pay increases. You'll notice that family members of management get advancements or good positions. Hard workers are expected to work harder. Very little work life balance. Any requests outside of 2 weeks vacation is frowned upon. Your vacation may not even be approved if you do not submit your request well in advance. Also, you will be forced to use your vacation during plant shut downs. Should you take a sick day, or arrive 5 minutes late, you'll get fired or laid off at the next possible opportunity. Terminations and Lay-offs occur frequently (both salaried & hourly). Huge revolving door, lots of temps and contract workers.

Pros

Good to start with. Few people are good and try to help you if you are fresh recruit. Other than that nothing good about it.

Cons

Stress stress and just stress. This is Linamar for you. People panic very easily. Severely under developed work culture. Very poor communication between the departments. They consume almost half of your time every week in useless meetings and then expect you to work overtime without being paid for that. E mails are only for arguements and one line quotes. Not even single person understands how effectively emails can be used to convey things and work cohesively rather than wasting half of the week's time in worthless meetings, Further, No care for you work-life balance. So very Unprofessional environment wherein you don't feel the sense of being attached to the company. Motivation level is zero. Even the senior level people hardly know the the right way to plan and execute tasks. If you try something better you won't find support. You plan for certain tasks everyday but fail to complete unless you sit for extra 2 hours or so because most of your time will be consumed in team meetings. You are expected to stay till late evening every single day. Instersting thing is people expect you to start from the word go and overload you with several tasks simultaneously without even letting you induce properly in the work culture. Company believes in fire fighting rather than prior planning. Another thing, you have a time to come to the office but no time to leave. If you are late by few mins you get warning. But if you work for an hour extra to compensate you few minutes late coming, that time is counted nowhere. You are late by few mins you are defaulter. You sit late-your extra time will not be counted anywhere. No flexibility at work by any chance. Now that is unprofessional Company is big but just like any other family owned business the work culture and mentality here is also pretty small and thoroughly unprofessional. You get a data to work on. While you work and finish the task, someone comes up with different set of data and you have to start again. Seniors lack vision badly. Nothing ever is planned here. Seniors are there only to panic when problem occurs and blame lower staff. If one has no other option only then opt for this company else a big NO. You will end up screwing your family life, your peace of mind and your health too. Even compensation is below par. Learn whatever you can from Linamar and then move on. Job security is zero too

Pros

nothing pro for this company

Cons

I worked for all most 2 years in their heat treatment facility racking and un-racking parts on and on for 12 hours / day for less than $14. This company is a joke...supervision means the Team \ Leaders (some of them knowledgeable) that are running the show. They have a Supervisor sitting all day long in the office and having no idea what happens on the floor. The only time when I / we meet the supervisor is in the daily morning meeting. This company survives on the shoulder on few people. Here I met the most knowledgeable person that I know - their process engineer that knows everything and helps everybody. This guy ( I forgot his name) runs the show; he trains, teaches and helps everybody. He can decide in all most everything and he's the one who decides in any problem; the only thumb up for Linamar Gear...
