Sales nightmare...

Pros

No pros to working at Massage Addict at all.

Cons

Toxic work environment lead by miserable people who hate their RMT’s. The owners took every opportunity to bad mouth their own RMT’s and the pay is terrible as well. Owners made inappropriate comments about staff and clients several times. Literally everyone who worked here ended up developing mental health issues from how poorly run it was. Terrible business model to sell yearly memberships without 100% transparency.

Pros

Full benefits package covering 80% of regular services + dental and other. Great environment, easy bookings, laundry done for you, an app lets you see when you have clients. People tip often and its all yours. Easy to get hired off the bat.

Cons

Could have hydraulic tables. Pay is good if you are just starting up. Higher up management can be quite useless sometimes.

Underpaid and overworked

Pros

Flexible scheduling and shifts are usually 6-7 hours. Closed on stat holidays. Discounted treatments. Suitable for self sufficient workers as there’s only one front desk person working at a time. Benefits for full time workers

Cons

Your experience will depend on the specific location and it’s management. Because it’s a franchise the owners are investors in the company so they don’t need to have any experience in the industry or have any leadership training to own a clinic which can make for an incompetent, toxic and greed based management style. The better locations tend to have former or current therapists as owners. Head office will not have your back as they are only interested in profit which was made even clearer during the pandemic - they raised the prices peak pandemic with no improvements to the actual services (rates have doubled since Massage Addict first opened just watch their episode on Dragons Den). The location I worked at had many abusive clients and staff but it was overlooked by both the owners and corporate. You don’t get scheduled breaks and are expected to hide your food if you get a walk-ins. If it’s slow you’re expected to deep clean the entire clinic. Few locations have dry cleaning services but most of them require front desk to wash and fold linens on top of their regular duties and so many sheets and towels are old and stained and oily as they don’t use bleach and just a few drops of detergent to save costs! If clients knew this they would be disgusted. Mostly only part time opportunities available and the hours are unstable and vary weekly, lots of lay offs if overstaffed. Don’t be fooled, you are expendable to them. If you want to work here make sure you pick a good location or you’ll be unhappy
