Pros

I cannot think of a single Pro this company had. After many years of working in the Engineering field I decided to apply to Minto because of their well known name. I had no clue I was in for a surprised. Let me tell you that in my time there I realized over 80% percent of those who worked there had only a high school diploma and nothing else. I found it so dangerous that non educated people were doing engineering jobs. Then there were those EAs that were climbing the corporate latter in "other" ways.

Cons

I was sick and tired of hearing so many racial jokes. My boss constantly had me run her errands for home and when I told her that was not what I was hired for she would threaten me. I eventually went to the HR and told them my situation and they said they would handle it. Little did I know that HR was a good friend of hers and they had me fired a week later. You have no job security here and are constantly threatened. This was the worse place I had even worked in.

We pride ourselves in having a diverse business which requires many different skill-sets, competencies and technical/educational requirements. These are established through job descriptions, and our talent acquisition team recruits to specific requirements. The unprofessional conduct you’ve described is contrary to our values and is not tolerated. Maintaining a workforce of engaged employees who uphold our values is critical to our company’s success. I encourage you to reach out to our HR Department to further discuss your concerns.

Pros

It is very difficult to find pros about this company. However, the sustainable aspects are commendable, office location is near TTC, as with anywhere, you might meet some nice and smart people, but they probably won't stick around long.

Cons

Disgraceful HR practices - HR is constantly sharing private information about employees casually, excellent staff are constantly being fired without reason, everyone is fearful of management/HR, no one is able to freely speak up, no trust between management/HR and employees. Minto has the worst customer service - Minto talks the talk but certainly does not walk the walk, customer service is non-existent, the customer is always wrong appears to be the policy. Homes are not up to standards, low quality and customer can't do anything about it. They are stuck. The family are a bunch of old-boys' club men who ran the company in a male-dominated fashion. Despite the family stepping down, it is still very incestuous with family-relations in management and the company is still run in a male-dominated way. So if you are a woman - stay away unless you basically expect to be checked out and asked to make coffee and take notes. There is no innovation, ideas are all re-used since 1950. Little room for growth, expansion of role or thoughts, ideas, projects. Pay is also below average with minimal increases and minimal growth potential.

We apologize for your negative experience, and thank you for your feedback. We take concerns with professionalism and confidentially seriously, as such conduct is contrary to our guiding principles and values. Any concerns about confidentiality and/or lack of professionalism at any level of staff should be brought to the attention of that individual’s manager, the Human Resources Business Partner assigned to the employee’s group or the VP of HR. Regarding innovation, we’re working on it! One of our largest initiatives to address work processes has been the implementation of an enterprise-wide SAP system. The previous patchwork of multiple business systems wasn’t working for us – we needed to simplify Minto’s corporate systems to establish a strong foundation for growth, and to compete with a number of large players in our industry. The benefits of SAP are numerous – from having centralized access to data, to a scalable system to support business growth, to real-time reporting capabilities – all of which help us do our jobs smarter and more efficiently.

Pros

-head office has a lot of genuinely nice people - none of which are in management roles -they provide food and drink on a constant basis which is nice but makes you wonder what they're doing for their site staff (ie. the bread and butter of the company).....? -lots of training opportunities and they're really good about paying for courses

Cons

-moral is extremely low on construction sites -deadlines are far too tight and unrealistic. -front end of company (ie. development managers and land development dept.) are setting up construction teams for failure with their ill advised business model -too many resources put into the wrong areas of the company (ie. taking groups of managers to Niagara Falls for a drunk weekend to discuss "corporate objectives") and far too little into those that are struggling (company operations, employee engagement, site management, etc.) -alarming turnover rate -an excessive amount of former mattamy employees who have wiped minto, a family owned company established 60 years ago, of any identity and culture it once had. in fact, minto feels more like a subsidiary of mattamy at this point. you hear "at mattamy..." fifteen times a day. upper/middle management regularly abuse their senority which is most apparent in the hiring "process". take a look at all the administrative staff and you'll realize that it's mainly comprised of former waitresses who once served a manager and won them over with their "personality"... -the salary structure is an absolute disaster and is mainly based on favortism and connections. two employees can work the same job and one makes $20,000 more with the exact same qualifications and history
