Pros
Salaries are good, but the company has used Covid as an excuse to freeze them and threaten employees with further layoffs.
Cons
Nav Canada likes to advertise they are a top 100 employer in Canada and it looks that way on paper because they offer pretty good benefits. In actuality, the working environment is extremely toxic and inspires fear. Early in the pandemic, they illegally laid off over 700 employees, breaking union contracts. Their unions did not make any attempts at saving those jobs, but let the affected employees hang on to hope for months. The company then threatened the remaining employees with more layoffs if they did not consent to pay freezes. Now, they are hiring ~100 new employees at a cheaper rate than the original employees who were laid off. Nav Canada creates an environment of fear and hostility. Management mindset is "us" versus "them". I did not realize how toxic the environment was until I started at a new company where they actually practice what they preach and value all employees. It seemed like a fairytale at first because the negative, hostile environment was so ingrained in my life from my years at Nav Canada. Getting laid off was the best thing that could ever happen for my mental and physical health. If you are new in the workplace, avoid this company like the plague. There are so many companies out there that will value you and treat you with respect.
