Pros

- the best part are the people you work. they are all pretty nice, including most of the managers. everyone is just intimidated by the CEO - benefits are average/decent - bluecross, 80% coverage on many services with RRSP contributions

Cons

- President/CEO is very controlling of his managers and staff. His personality can range from intimidating/bulldozer type to moments of being nice and funny (with the latter being more infrequent). If you don't work with him directly, that is, you have a manager between you and him then it's fine as you are generally insulated. Reporting managers all get yelled at on a rotating basis depending on who he is focused on. - Salary is definitely low even in the Ag industry which is known to be lower than other industries. bonus is pretty low so don't factor that in if you are offered a job. It's $500 or less for non-management staff. - CEO makes managers compete with each other even when they should all work together to build the business. - Controlling environment. Senior management is petty when you leave.

The TRUTH that you should know

Pros

High employee turnover can possibly provide opportunities beyond your experience level. Could be a good stepping stone to better opportunities elsewhere. Some great people still work with this company.

Cons

Turnover and inability to retain talented people leaves you surrounded by new employees. This contributes to dysfunction, extreme workload, and lack of support to do your job. Five HR Directors in the past four years is a good example of this. Compensation offered is typically below average even after you have proved yourself. The CEO's direct treatment of others is abusive and insulting. If you become a direct report, your ethics and morals will be challenged with asinine beliefs that impact you and the people you deal with. The CEO's awful leadership permeates throughout the company and creates a toxic culture. Management is an "old boys club" waiting for retirement bonuses and pensions to kick in. As a woman it is near impossible to be acknowleged, much less respected here. If you're young, energetic, and progressive this place will be a hard place to work at. Several managers actively voice that you are wasting your time trying to improve the company and you should move on if you are young and have potential. The reputation of Paterson GlobalFoods head office is fairly well known in Winnipeg. Make sure you talk to a few people who work or have worked here before you get yourself involved with this company.

Pros

I worked for the company full time for more than 5 years. At first it was a great company to work for. The management and staff were wonderful. The HR department was staffed with very professional positive staff and their energy permeated through the entire company. I enjoyed going to work each and every day. Over time the staff turnaround became extremely high and the environment became very negative to the point of becoming toxic.

Cons

The CEO is a tyrant. Most of the staff and management are afraid him and as a result the staff turnaround is very high. Many of the long time staff have left the company recently due to the negative working environment that now exists. The HR staff is fairly new to the company and they are very unapproachable in comparison to the previous HR staff. This is not the place to work if you are a young professional looking for growth. There are still a few higher up management staff left that are older and just waiting to retire. I feel sorry for them as they are constantly having to deal with the mood swings of the CEO as they report directly to him. It's very unfortunate that this company has gone from such a wonderful place to work to one of the worst companies to work for. The company has gained a bad reputation in the industry and the downtown area.
