Pros

Whether you're in recreation, nursing or sales, working with the seniors is truly rewarding.

Cons

Job Security/Employee Retention: You could be performing exceptionally, and still be terminated without cause. They’ll present a settlement offer and walk you out. There is no job security with Revera. Should you decide to accept employment with this company, be aware of this. Revera prides themselves on a culture of career development and growth. Unfortunately, this is not true. Revera would rather terminate a great employee who’s dedicated themselves for many years than retaining them. I gather this is their strategy to cut back in operational expenses. It was truly devastating to devote so much of myself to just be let go for no reason. So just be prepared to possibly face this if you decide to work for Revera. You could walk in one morning feeling great, and be escorted out in tears shortly thereafter for no reason. Work/Life Balance: Revera has very high expectations, particularly with their Sales Consultants. The standard is a mandatory 24 hour follow up with all lead inquiries. This isn’t terrible, but the expectation that you comply with this off work hours and weekends is. If you don’t unplug yourself, you will burn out. Open Communication: Revera fails to openly receive feedback from their employees. You can respectfully share your thoughts and opinions on items that need to be addressed, but they are simply rejected almost immediately. And once that happens, you lose your confidence to speak up as you don’t want to be in bad terms with management. If upper management decides to roll out a new policy, or initiative, there is no fore warning. It just…happens. And you gotta roll with it. Their way or…the high way. Compensation: Revera prides themselves they are competitive with compensation and benefits. Not true. Revera offers employee low wages. It’s a truly vicious cycle. You are encouraged to apply as the company promotes an opportunity for career advancement but you’re paid awfully lower than most. But hey! Look on the bright side, it’s an “opportunity to be in the field, and build your resume”. Give me a break. If you’re in sales, be aware that your hard earned money may not in fact be awarded to you if you are terminated. Their policy indicates if termination takes place you are no longer entitled to receive your commission or occupancy bonus. I lost $6,000…. Thanks Revera! My advice is to seek legal advice prior to signing an employment offer and understand the terms you are signing to because there’s no going back. Support/Mentorship: There is none. Instead, they’ll ask you what you’re doing wrong and how you’re going to fix it. Always pressuring you and putting you on the spot. No opportunity to collectively as a team brainstorm creative solutions to situations. Marketing: This company doesn’t believe in paid advertising. The expectation is to pressure their Sales Consultants to generate new leads in the community by dedicating numerous hours weekly on outreach. The expectation is ridiculous. 10 outreach per week and you must submit a report to your GM or “Executive Director” forecasting the following week ahead, so realistically you’re planning 20 outreach in a 10 day period. And remember, this does not include your other assigned tasks and duties as the “Money Maker” of the building: Follow up calls, tours, yardi, event planning and execution, move in support to new residents, conference calls, repetitive weekly regional calls, etc. Perhaps if they weren’t faced with multi million dollar class action lawsuits for care neglect, they would be more inclined to support their business by spending money on the areas that need attention.

Pros

Benefits and vacation accumulation are great when able to use them.

Cons

Absolutely no work life balance. Mental health issues are treated as if you are a problem to the company, no supports are offered. Work load is extreme and excessive. This company will destroy you as a person. Corporate management will do anything to save their own butt including lying, cheating, stealing, bullying. They do not care about the senior population they are charging extreme amounts of money, and claim to care about. They treat employees on all levels like slaves and with no real respect. If you injure yourself while working, look out, as they will do whatever they can to get rid of you. I have witnessed it more times then I can count. Id go as far as to say that the regional directors are evil, and only care about their bonuses. And yes that means at the expense of all other staff, building upkeep, and the seniors themselves. They do not treat people as people. Communication is lacking on all levels. They hire incompetent executive directors and pat them on the back everyday for doing absolutely nothing, while the good EDs get treated as garbage and dont last long. Their pay system NEVER works, and it takes months to get paid for hours you work due to the lack of support on all levels. There are many companies in the senior care sector. This one is by far the most corrupt. If I could rate zero, I would.
