IT - changing environment

Pros

Good benefits (stock, insurance), money is OK, some hokey tickets contests which is almost impossible to win (1 in 3000), nice cafeteria ($)

Cons

Cubicles, access-bad location, IT is restructuring so management is still "adjusting", low on staff, burocracy (Specially projects), environment is very Microsoft oriented, conservative and rather boring. Going up the ladder is almost impossible, they hire their friends and consulting companies (like Avanade) to do the fun work.

Pros

- Family environment. - Good salary. - People

Cons

- The benefits are nothing more than normal. - IT Leadership team members think they are bigger than "God" and overtake any methodology in order to meet their own interests. - Lack of training and professional capacitation. - Leaders are micro manages. - No grow opportunities if you are not friend of the "king" of your department. - Often work extra time and don't get paid. - VPs and director don't truth their employees.

Pros

Work hours are fairly stable

Cons

Upper management lacks leadership and intelligence. Senior ranking officers are not capable of adapting to changing environments. Too much politics, promotions are not given to the most competent individuals, instead, promotions are given through social committees. Growth only occurs through acquisitions and there is no program of standardization. Upper Management is very ego centric, does not like being challenged, and have their own method of doing things. As a result, it is very easy to become disconnected from the market and to lose pertinent job skills, which will hurt you in the long-run.. . No career or intellectual growth.
