Pros

There was an employee store that had huge deals on books (and when you weren't being shamed for shopping there) it was pleasant.

Cons

A very odd group of people, with the oddest being the managers. Very anti-family which I found ironic, since it's a children's publisher. Terrible comments about children and the way they learn. Negative comments about religions that left me shocked. Also, racist remarks, anti-gay comments when hiring happened - completely shocking and the antithesis of what this company claims they stand for. Very cold office environment. No one wants to know anyone. The VP is very manipulative. Management set employees up for failure in my experience there. Management courted great candidates with many false promises, only to let them go a few months into employment which was devastating to witness.

Pros

The corporate mission of increasing literacy is a worthy goal.

Cons

Heirarchy is distinct; little room for entrepreneurial progressive thought. Company pays according to "publishing industry, which is well-known to be on the low scale". The company norm of people only achieving respect if they have been employees for 20+ years is antiquated, stifling and causes employee complacency.
