Pros

Their office is in a good location, close to the crossroads of Toronto's subways and next to Yorkville. Very convenient for Christmas shopping.

Cons

There are two major issues at Y&R Toronto - the senior management and the culture. The Senior management at Y&R do not know how to run an full-service ad agency in 2013. Due to the constraints glassdoor puts on submissions, I cannot go into details about specific problems that exist. What I can say is that there is a lack of operational competence, insufficient financial controls, an inability to properly evaluate the prospective talent needed in the new world of advertising, and no desire to mentor the future leaders within the organization. In most organizations this would be offset somewhat by the staff rallying around and creating an outstanding culture. But that's not the case here. Yes, at the more junior levels it's fine - people are friend inside and outside the office. At the more senior levels, however, there is a tremendous sense of being either included or excluded from the "inner circle". People with new ideas or a new approach to things are seen as a threat, and there is a tremendous amount of dishonesty from the leaders in the organization. After picking up my offer of employment I went for a drink with a number of people that I knew that worked there, and I was told by three independently not to accept the offer. I wish I had listened to their advice.

Pros

- Reputable Name - Talented and Fun Employees

Cons

- Long Hours -Being on retainer, there is very little motivation to keep up the pace and demands of these long hours (no bonuses and/or overtime) - Awful Salaries - Everyone wants to work on the more exciting projects, and ignore the projects that still need to be done for our greatest clients.
