Pros

Company is working on right problems. Pay and benefits are decent.

Cons

HR pushes everyone to write positive reviews on Glassdoor to attract talent. Stealing credits and passing other's job as your own is very common and it runs from the top. Complaints to manager and HR go unheard. What you do does not matter at all, how you make your boss and senior leaders feel matters more. If you point out any mistakes of your boss or anyone above you in hierarchy then be prepared to be punished. Very political and vendetta driven organisation. God forbid if you are a person of colour. I could not tolerate the blatant politics and left the organisation after a year.

Lots of cliques and politics

Pros

Remote work is a lovely perk - they're probably one of a handful of employers that still offer fully remote roles - which is good especially in winter. It looks good on your Resume

Cons

An overabundance of supervisory roles with insufficient doers is a significant cultural drawback I've observed. The excessive number of mandatory one-on-one meetings, including sessions with a Team Lead, Senior Manager, Director, and occasionally higher-ups, is particularly cumbersome. Although these meetings can offer a platform for voicing concerns not acknowledged by immediate supervisors, their obligatory nature often detracts from valuable work time, rendering them largely inefficient. Excelling in flattery seems to be a prerequisite here - Many of us prefer to simply do our jobs well and head home. The necessity to ingratiate oneself with higher-ups to advance is unwelcome. It's important to recognize individuals based on their contributions, rather than perpetuating a culture that favors those who curry favor. You could put in all the work in a project - the late nights, weekends and everything and someone else steals all the glory in a Slack shoutout - with your contribution coming as a footnote - all this because, well, you're not part of their clique and don't subscribe to flattery. Moreover, being a Person of Color appears to increase vulnerability during layoffs - it often feels like we're disproportionately affected. Take that observation as you will.

Pros

- RRSP matching - you'll learn a lot about investing! (mostly on your own)

Cons

- little to no work life balance (mandatory meetings are regularly scheduled outside of working hours, ticket quotas are seldom achievable during your 9-6) - toxic leadership culture whereby manipulation and guilt trips are a fan favourite in pushing employees to hit targets (typically 75 ticket updates per day) - phone agents must be prepared to handle any and all incoming calls despite only being trained on their 1 assigned pillar (i.e. account funding) - bureaucratic measures have been taken to limit agent access, resulting in endless escalations arising from tasks as simple as applying a refund to an account - this has led to a lack of efficiency/ownership from agents, and a hugely dissatisfied customer base - agent development is constantly put on the back burner while leadership is too busy implementing short-term staffing solutions to mitigate backlogs/support new product launches that no one knows anything about
