Hate Divides Communities, Co-operation Builds Them. "Throughout their 200-year history, co-ops have been strong advocates for and great builders of peace." Paul Gerrard, Campaigns, Public Affairs & Policy Director, shares how our Co-op plans to make co-operation a core element of the UK's approach to international development.
We understand that real work happens in all kinds of places, from warehouses and shop floors to kitchen tables. We’re proud to offer flexible working to our colleagues because that’s the right thing to do. Read more about our flexible work policy
At Co-op, we believe that pregnancy loss is a deeply personal experience of grief that deserves compassion and meaningful support. That’s why, in partnership with the Miscarriage Association, we introduced a dedicated policy offering paid leave and tailored resources for colleagues and their partners, regardless of the stage of pregnancy or circumstances. This policy reflects our commitment to fostering more inclusive workplaces where colleagues feel truly valued during life’s most difficult moments. The Women and Equalities Committee’s recommendation to extend statutory bereavement leave to cover pregnancy loss is an important and necessary step. By ensuring universal support for those navigating this profound loss, we can create workplaces that truly care and make a meaningful difference to so many.
How does Co-op Live benefit the community? 💙 Every year, Co-op Live will donate at least £1m to their charity partner, Co-op Foundation to support young people and youth organisations to create fairer, kinder, and more inclusive communities across the UK. 🙌 The donation supports initiatives like the Young Gamechangers Fund, which awards grants up to £20k to young people leading positive change in their communities. 💃 Co-op Live is also giving tickets to every show to Co-op Foundation, awarding free seats to people doing amazing things in their community. Gigs at Co-op Live really do give back. Doing good never sounded so good.

At Co-op, we’re run differently. We’re not owned by a wealthy few, we are owned by our members. They have a say in how we’re run. Help to pick our leaders. Choose how profits are spent in their local community. And when you’re owned by the people, you can do right by the people. When it comes to your food, your community, your life and even your death. It’s only right that it is determined by you. We’re not just a little blue shop. We’re a 180-year-old movement, 5 million people strong, all trying to do the right thing. Owned by you. Right by you. Welcome to the new era of Co-op 👋

This year, the aim of International Women’s Day is to #InspireInclusion and forge a more inclusive world for women. Our Group CEO, Shirine Khoury-Haq: “One of the ways I support inclusion and diversity is by empowering women in our Co-op. I recognise the challenges and barriers that women face in their personal and professional lives, and I want to help them overcome them. I want to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in our Co-op, and inspire the next generation of female leaders.” How are you inspiring inclusion this year? #IWD2024
