Wildfires are ravaging our communities and our planet - it’s heartbreaking. As we write this message, fires continue to burn across our home in Canada and extreme wildfires have developed across the world. These fires have a devasting impact on ecosystems and communities. We believe by continuing to engage and share, we play our small part ensuring climate change becomes a global priority. We will be donating $100K CAD to GlobalMedic to provide urgent support to the local communities across Canada. This is part of our emergency fund to respond to global crises, help people in need, and offer short term relief. We’re not a sustainable company but we are acutely aware of our impact and are working on long term initiatives to reduce it. We firmly believe all companies have a collective responsibility to fight climate change -- one of the most pressing crises facing humanity and our planet.

At DECIEM, we believe that everyone has the right to belong and to live safely as their authentic selves. We support the right of every person to show up unapologetically as who they are, and to live without fear for simply being. That’s why we are proud to be donating $75,000 to Rainbow Railroad, a global, not-for-profit organization that helps people who are experiencing homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination get to safety via sponsorships, emergency relocation and other forms of outreach assistance. This donation helps further the life-saving work performed by Rainbow Railroad and its global network of activists and human rights defenders advocating for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights. Sustainability on your mind? 💭 While we hope this video makes you smile, recent events in North America and around the world remind us that climate change is real, and sustainability is no joke. If you’re like us, sustainability is on your mind now more than ever. We’re doing our part to address climate change by working to reduce carbon emissions from our business. In addition to the “boring” stuff like being efficient with energy, we’re working on other ways to be friendlier to the Earth. 🌬️ Renewable energy certificates: also called RECs, these certify that renewable energy (like wind!) was generated and injected into the power grid on our behalf. We ensure that the electricity consumption of our Ontario manufacturing facility is covered by RECs. ✈️ Sustainable aviation fuel: this type of biofuel is made to power planes, but unlike traditional jetfuel, is derived from waste products instead of fossil fuels. Its carbon footprint is up to 80% lower than fossil-based jet fuel and we use it to cover a portion of our business air travel. 🌳 Carbon offsets: represent reductions in greenhouse gas emissions used to compensate for emissions that occur elsewhere. We know there is a lot of scrutiny around carbon offsets, but we only purchase from high quality, verified emission reduction projects that provide other co-benefits to the environment and community to ensure our e-commerce shipping is carbon neutral. 2021, what a journey it has been! If the last year has taught us anything, it is that the world has changed so much. Many things have not gone to plan. But we also know how many good things have happened. This is why we have partnered with positive news media company @goodgoodgoodco, to create a special print issue this holiday season. This newspaper is centred around the theme of reflections, as we highlight the “goodest of the good” humans, milestones, and stories of the past year that are making our world a better place. Inside this issue, you will find uplifting stories. Some of our favourites include a rise in discussions around mental health at the Olympics, and how a coalition of over one million gardeners are banding together to save the bee population. We’ve also included some happy stories about DECIEM, including a highlight on the amazing work from one of our charity partners, the Transgender District, and the work of Rita Silva from our scientific team. You can find a print copy of this newspaper in our stores, or access a digital version at DECIEM.com/goodnews.html.
