Etsy Ads is an on-site advertising product that gives Etsy sellers the opportunity to promote their handmade or vintage goods to buyers across our website and mobile apps, and last year we redesigned that automatic bidding system altogether! Sellers who participate in the Etsy Ads program act as bidders in an automated, real-time auction that allows their listings to be highlighted alongside organic search results on Etsy, when the ad system judges that they’re relevant. We saw an opportunity that could enhance our sellers’ reach, and we moved from setting one bid price per listing per day to using a neural network to dynamically set prices on each request. This is just one more example of the interesting and impactful #engineering projects we work on. Interested to read more about how we did it?
