Our ClaimsPro Edmonton Branch Manager was looking for a team building exercise for his diverse team. He wanted something different to get them out of their comfort zone. He found Mud Hero, Canada’s largest obstacle course. He extended the invitation to his greater Alberta colleagues and the Edmonton team was joined on event day by employees from Lethbridge, Calgary, Peace River, Red Deer and Fort McMurray. Participants had four months’ notice to train if they chose to, but the event was targeted at all ages and fitness levels. The 6K obstacle course took place on an overcast day in August on a ski hill east of Alberta. The participants began by running down the muddy hill, then tackling 18 obstacles such as ladders and ropes. The inclined wall and other obstacles were impossible to overcome without the support of team members. The mud added to the difficulty, at one point requiring the mudders to dig their fingers into it like claws to move themselves along. There were bumps and bruises, but that did not dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. “So much fun, so amazing,” they raved.
The CIP Society, the professional association of the Insurance Institute, recently held its Annual Beach Volleyball Tournament. ClaimsPro’s Mississauga office entered two teams in the event. Together they formed the band Under Surveillance to compete in an industry Battle of the Bands. Since then they have played numerous bars and private parties. Then the Kitchener Waterloo Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association (OIAA) organized their own battle of the bands and Under Surveillance found themselves playing to a crowd that included SCM employees. Finding time to rehearse hasnât been easy with five very busy schedules, but practice makes perfect. In 2018 Under Surveillance once again entered the Hamilton lawyersâ Battle of the Bands and this time took home the trophy.
