Pros

High profile projects that look good on a CV

Cons

You will only be supported at BBF if you are a clear favourite of certain higher-ups of this company, or certain HR personnel. Unrealistic schedules and saccharine, trite management training initiatives that take half a day on average are also the norm at BBF. Avoid.

Thank you for taking the time to post and I'm sorry you felt unsupported in your role or undervalued. If during your exit interview you gave similar feedback, please be assured we will take that under consideration and give this feedback to the relevant personnel. Feedback on the schedule is something that we will flag at production level. I'm sorry you didn't feel the management training had value. The feedback we have received from the training was very positive, as we aimed to empower the managers in the studio to be supported & help develop their skills. The animation industry in Ireland hasn't always had dedicated learning and development functions, so when we have this resource available to us, we want to support those who are growing into, or are in, management positions through that function. Something we can take from your review from working with us is that, even if we feel we are doing our best to support & to encourage our crew, not everyone is feeling the same way, and so we should aim to see how we can best capture the thoughts of those who are feeling unsupported. We wish you the best in your next project, thank you for contributing to the studio for the time that you were here.

Pros

They have benefits. At least they don't call you slurs.

Cons

Work culture that encourages 60 hours + weeks. Supervisors that encourage working overtime on weekends and not reporting extra hours. All reported overtime was taken in lieu, but the production would never slow down enough to take time in lieu without falling behind on quotas, which leads to even more overtime. Timelines to fulfill quota that most places take 3 weeks to do in one. Does not put retakes into the equation. Former coworkers keep telling me management is getting worse and worse. Promises from management that the team was still hiring, so the workload would lessen, but it never did and the team was hemorrhaging talent. Juniors getting no extra support but the same amount of work as seniors.

Pros

When I started at 9 Story/Brown Bag Films in Toronto there was a lot of opportunity for growth and collaboration. I was able to quickly rise from being an FX artist, then to a Designer, and then to Design Supervisor, among other smaller development roles in between. Lots of creative and giving people to be found working there.

Cons

This, sadly, no longer feels like the case. Nepotism is seemingly running rampant among the middle management. Mass layoffs and crunches occurred multiple times during my employment, particularly within the last 5 years. The company no longer seems to have long term goals that invest in or support artists. A very transactional business now.
