Pros
Excellent salary, lots of great people (non-management), promotion of positive values from the CEO and the "message" that ethics are very important but only at a very high level that middle management does not support
Cons
Incompetent managers and directors who don't know a thing about the departments they are managing, yet are very controlling. Very resistant to change, even when it's obvious like adopting industry standards and practices. It's a toxic place where no one is engaged in the work because if you are more competent than your managers (which is not hard at all), they will want you gone for fear of exposing their incompetence to those above them. Self-preservation and fear are the cornerstones of middle management at this org. It's a shame because I think the CEO is a really stand up guy who is trying to fix this problem but it's very difficult when you have a bunch of entitled authoritarian managers who have never worked at another company in 20+ years and are scared of change because they have no idea what's out there but don't want to put in any effort to learn anything.
