Pros

The job is not all bad. I actually really liked the job, there was a view people I actually enjoyed talking to, and there is one really sweet manager, you get to pet and play with dogs all day, and then you clean up their kennel and set up their lunch, it’s fairly easy and pretty fun sometimes. One thing I actually enjoyed about this job was the baths and enrichments. Owners pay, and you can bathe their dogs, cuddle them, read them stories, make them pup cups, etc. according to what they choose and what’s the best option you see fit for the dog if they don’t like something or aren’t engaging. But there are so many negatives that I have with it as well.

Cons

The owner at the Alpharetta, GA location is the definition of a micromanager to a T. She’ll get in your way, start doing your job for you, and then get angry because you’re not doing your job- the job that you can’t do because she is doing it for you. You also have to move fast enough, or she also gets angry. Which would not be a problem, if only she would give you the space to let you move. She expects to you to be picking up dog poop and to clean the kennels at the same time. Two separate locations. When you get to picking up dog poop, she gets angry and tells you to go inside and clean the kennels. And she’ll start to pick up the dog poop. Then she’ll come inside and tell you that you need to pick up the dog poop even though that is what you were doing before, and send you outside. I saw that a dog had bloody diarrhea. When I went to clean this very obvious biohazard, she got mad at me for trying to clean it, told me ‘it’s normal and told me that she told me I should clean, and started acting like I never listen when she’s confusing me so much I don’t know what is going on. Meanwhile a dog on the floor began to lick up the bloody diarrhea. There was another time there was a dog fight while a dog was entering a yard. This dog ran in and started ripping at this dog’s neck. I panicked, because I didn’t have an airhorn or or water hose. So I ran over with my lead (the rope you turn into a leash, if you are unaware) and looped it around the aggressive dog, and I began to walk the dog out of the play yard. While I was in the middle of walking, the owner walked up to me in the yard and told me to NEVER walk a dog out of the yard with a lead. I told he I was just doing it because he was actively attacking another dog, she yelled at me and said “don’t EVER do that.” Less than an inch from my face. I felt her spit on my face because she yelled so close. She then tried to reason, saying it was as because dogs can be leash aggressive, which is why I cannot walk a dog on a leash out of a yard. Even though the dog was actively attacking ANOTHER dog and we had limited options of help at the moment. And that still doesn’t justify her yelling in my face. She is also very petty, will wait to see you alone drinking water in one of your two five minute breaks you’re allowed to go to the bathroom or eat something while working 6 hours and remind you that slow people get moved and fired much quicker. She will MAKE SURE YOU KNOW she dislikes you. I have cried multiple times at this job. She’s tried to act sweet and she seems so at first but then it all just derails. Genuinely have not hated management this bad EVER. The dogs were never a problem here, Lot of them are sweet or just want to be left alone, which is pretty easy to handle. But it’s also very commonly 25 dogs per one person, including the big yards. Fights happen a LOT. You get one everyday. But you do get used to it, you get quicker on your feet, you can handle it better. The dogs have actually helped me feel better quite a few times after dealing with a terrible morning. The dog yards can be stressful, absolutely, and you often can’t hear your own thoughts and you can hardly hear the music. But when you’re having a bad time in one yard, you at least get the clarity that in an hour or so you’re going to be switching yards, and refreshing with all new dogs. Which is great. If you can deal with a store owner that bullies you and is constantly down your back making your job harder, maybe you can handle this job better than I could. But I personally won’t be coming back, nor will my own dog.
